Liquid steel production at Venezuela’s state-run steelmaker Sidor reached 605,000 mt in the first half of the year (H1), according to media reports.

Despite being 23 percent higher than last year’s liquid steel production, the volume is still far away from the production levels the steelmaker used to have in the past.

Comparing Sidor’s current low production volumes, a media report said that the company’s H1 output in 2015 accounted for only two months of production in 2007, when the steelmaker was owned by Ternium and could produce up to 358,000 mt per month.

In June this year, Sidor produced 96,418/mt of steel, 38 percent up month-on-month.

According to media reports, Sidor is currently operating at less than one-quarter of its installed capacity.
