Indian miner Vedanta Resources has announced that it has resumed
production at Karnataka on February 28 following receipt of all requisite clearances and approvals, at an annual capacity of 2.29 million mt per year. During the quarter ended March 31, about 300,000 mt of
iron ore was produced and the sales are expected to resume through e-auctions in the current quarter.
During the past quarter, the Ministry of Environment and Forest revoked its earlier suspension order regarding environment clearances for
iron ore mines in Goa. Vedanta Resources said that it has been allocated an interim annual
mining quantity of approximately 5.5 million mt of
iron ore.
Mining is expected to commence after the monsoons, following receipt of the remaining approvals from the government.
During the financial year ended March 31,
pig iron production ramped up from 510,000 mt in the previous financial year to a record
production of 611,000 mt. In March this year, further de-bottlenecking of the
pig iron plant was completed resulting in a capacity increase from 625,000 mt to 700,000 mt.
