Vale's iron ore exports down 13.7 percent in Jan-May

In May this year, Brazilian miner Vale’s iron ore export volume totaled 16.32 million mt, rising by 4.2 percent compared to April and decreasing by 11.7 percent compared to May 2022, according to Brazil’s National Union of the Industry of Extraction of Iron and Base Metals (Sinferbase). In the first five months of the current year, Vale’s iron ore exports decreased by 13.7 percent year on year to 69.90 million mt.

Meanwhile, in May this year Vale’s iron ore sales in its domestic market amounted to 1.07 million mt, moving down by 48 percent year on year and by 46.7 percent month on month. In the January-May period of this year, Vale’s iron ore sales in its domestic market totaled 9.10 million mt, decreasing by 4.2 percent as compared with the same period last year.
