Vale to export first coal shipment from Mozambique

Brazil-based Vale announced Tuesday that it will export the first batch of coal from its Moatize mine--a metallurgical and thermal coal mine in the Tete Province in Mozambique--on Wednesday, September 14.

The 35,000 metric ton thermal coal shipment also marks the completion of Vale's first phase of development in the Moatize mine. Vale's mining operations in Tete began in May of this year, and so far, Vale has already invested US$1.658 billion in the project which will eventually have an 11 million metric ton production capacity of both metallurgical and thermal coal.
