Vale remains as Brazil largest exporter, despite falling global sales

Brazil mining and iron ore producer Vale has remained the country’s largest exporter, according to data from the nation’s development, industry and foreign trade ministry (MDIC).

According to MDIC, Vale’s global sales reached $20.5 billion in 2014, down 22.7 percent compared to the $26.5 billion the company exported a year ago.

Other metals companies listed on MDIC list include Samarco, which ranked top 10 exporter in the country in 2014, ThyssenKrupp’s CSA steel plant (13th), CSN (18th), Usiminas (54th) and Gerdau (72nd).

Samarco, CSA and CSN have exported, respectively, $3.1, $1.9 and $1.7 billion. Usiminas and Gerdau registered external sales of $692.1 and $540 million.
