The United Steelworkers union announced Wednesday that it will resume contract talks with ArcelorMittal USA and U.S. Steel after talks stalled last week—ArcelorMittal “walked away” from the table while U.S. Steel and the union agreed on a temporary break.

Both steelmakers are asking for significant concessions, according to the USW, relating to healthcare, severance, profit-sharing and other benefits.

“It is vitally important that everyone understands the issues and ArcelorMittal management’s unfair and unnecessary demands, and we believe that sharing this important information is essential to build membership solidarity within and between our locals,” the union said in a statement. “We know it will be a challenge, but we are confident that as long as we stand together, we will achieve our goals.”
