USTR soon to release new exemptions

According to reports, the anniversary rounds for further exclusions to be granted under the US S201 safeguard measures are about to be completed. It is most likely that about 100 of the total 650 new exclusion requests will be accepted. For the remaining 500, review meetings between requestors and an inter-agency team are currently being held, scheduled to complete on March 6, 2003. The US Government expects the conclusion of evaluations to be complete by end March to be released in one or two batches. It is expected in the industry that this second series of exclusion requests will be narrower in terms of product range, and lower in terms of tonnage compared to the initially granted exclusions.
