US rig count continues “baby steps” upward

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending July 2 the US rig count increased by three to 862, after a two-rig increase the previous week. The gas rig count decreased by nine to 219, whereas the oil rig count increased by 12 to 640. The overall rig count is down by 1,012 from 1,874 rigs during the same week a year ago.
 
Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count increased by four in the week ending July 2 to 135, after a one-rig decrease the week before. The Canadian rig count is still down by 170 from 309 rigs during the same week a year ago.
