The US Department of Commerce (DOC) released Thursday the preliminary license data results for US steel imports in June.
According to the DOC, the US imported 2,780,208 mt of steel products in June 2015, compared to 3,082,841 mt (census data) in May 2015 and 3,276,125 mt in June 2014 (census data).
The top steel products imported by the US in June were:
• HDG sheets and strip: 245,651 mt compared to 308,678 mt in May and 246,213 mt in June 2014.
• Hot rolled sheets: 289,375 mt compared to 293,044 mt in May and 320,360 mt in June 2014.
• Line Pipe: 187,729 mt compared to 217,015 mt in May and 138,293 mt in June 2014.
• Cold rolled sheet: 141,330 mt compared to 173,551 mt in May and 212,091 mt in June 2014.
• Rebar: 111,075 mt compared to 138,416 mt in May and 62,957 mt in June 2014.
The top sources for imported steel to the US in June were:
• Canada: 424,044 mt compared to 432,916 mt in May and 484,510 mt in June 2014.
• Brazil: 342,122 mt compared to 462,688 mt in May and 421,916 mt in June 2014.
• Korea: 273,796 mt compared to 322,568 mt in May and 415,430 mt in June 2014.
• Japan: 253,455 mt compared to 202,365 mt in May and 214,864 mt in June 2014.
• Mexico: 194,651 mt compared to 200,235 mt in May and 369,019 mt in June 2014.
