The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) announced Tuesday that trade using surface transportation between the US and its North American neighbors, Canada and Mexico, increased 11.6 percent in December 2011 compared to December 2010, totaling US$74.2 billion.
The value of US surface transportation trade with Canada and Mexico decreased by 3.2 percent in December 2011 from November 2011. Additionally, US-Canada and US-Mexico surface transportation trade both increased compared to December 2010 with US-Canada trade reaching US$44.2 billion, a 11.2 percent increase, and US-Mexico reaching US$30 billion, a 12.1 percent increase.
