During its regularly scheduled meeting Monday, Richmond, Virginia-based coal producer Massey Energy Company decided to further explore the sale of the company.

As SteelOrbis previously reported, board members were expected to meet this week to vote on whether or not to consider an offer from Alpha Natural Resources, as well inquiries from Arch Coal and ArcelorMittal.

Massey's chief executive Don Blankenship reportedly objected to the sale at the board meeting, citing that he did not believe now was the right time to pursue selling the company.
