US wire rod imports up 12.4 percent in May

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of wire rod totaled 69,902 mt in May 2023, up 12.4 percent from April but down 59.6 percent from May 2022 levels. By value, wire rod imports totaled $74.9 million in May 2023, compared to $64.9 million in April and $176.2 million in May 2022.

The US imported the most wire rod from Canada in May, with 69,902 mt, compared to 28,876 mt in April and 33,789 mt in May 2022. Other top sources of imported wire rod in May include Japan, with 13,125 mt; Egypt, with 7,459 mt; Brazil, with 5,191 mt; and South Korea, with 3,700 mt.
