US wire rod imports up 12.1 percent in April

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of wire rod totaled 62,185 mt in April 2023, up 12.1 percent from March but down 61.4 percent from April 2022 levels. By value, wire rod imports totaled $64.9 million in April 2023, compared to $58.5 million in March and $153.5 million in April 2022.

The US imported the most wire rod from Canada in April, with 28,876 mt, compared to 28,826 mt in March and 27,452 mt in April 2022. Other top sources of imported wire rod in April include Brazil, with 9,324 mt; Japan, with 9,189 mt; Malaysia, with 4,582 mt; and South Korea, with 3,832 mt.
