US wire rod imports down 20.9 percent in March

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of wire rod totaled 55,476 mt in March 2023, down 20.9 percent from February and down 67.1 percent from March 2022 levels. By value, wire rod imports totaled $58.5 million in March 2023, compared to $67.1 million in February and $176.2 million in March 2022.

The US imported the most wire rod from Canada in March, with 28,826 mt, compared to 24,902 mt in February and 29,906 mt in March 2022. Other top sources of imported wire rod in March include Japan, with 9,383 mt; Mexico, with 6,604 mt; Egypt, with 4,361 mt; and Brazil, with 3,310 mt.
