US weekly raw steel production, week ending August 7, 2010

On Monday, August 9, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that for the week ending August 7, 2010, US domestic raw steel production was 1,714,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 70.9 percent. This indicates a 24.4 year-on-year increase from the same period in 2009.

Adjusted year-to-date production through August 7, 2010 was 53,484,000 tons, at a capability utilization rate of 70.7 percent. This reflects a 58.8 percent increase from the 33,687,000 tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 46.2 percent.

Broken down by districts, the production for the week ending August 7, 2010 in thousands of net tons is as follows: Northeast Coast: 104; Pittsburgh/Youngstown: 125; Lake Erie: 41; Detroit: 139; Indiana/Chicago: 427; Midwest: 248; Southern: 558 and Western: 72.
