US weekly raw steel production, week ending August 21, 2010

On Monday, August 23, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that for the week ending August 21, 2010, US domestic raw steel production was 1,730,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 71.5 percent. This indicates a a 25.3 percent year-on-year increase from the same period in 2009.

Adjusted year-to-date production through August 21, 2010 was 56,903,000 tons, at a capability utilization rate of 70.7 percent. That is a 56.1 percent increase from the 36,449,000 tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 46.2 percent.

Broken down by districts, the production for the week ending August 21, 2010 in thousands of net tons is as follows: Northeast Coast: 86; Pittsburgh/Youngstown: 127; Lake Erie: 42; Detroit: 115; Indiana/Chicago: 458; Midwest: 234; Southern: 589 and Western: 79.
