US weekly raw steel production slips 0.4 percent

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production fell 0.4 percent last week (ended January 14) compared to the previous week.
Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,884,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 0.4 percent decline from the 1,891,000 nt produced in the previous week, and a 5.3 percent decrease from the 1,790,000 nt produced in the same week of last year.
The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 76.2 percent in the week ending February 14, compared to 76.5 percent in the previous week and 73.2 percent in the same week of last year.
