The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production fell last week (ended October 1), with output falling 3.8 percent from the previous week. In the prior week (ended September 24), US raw steel production had dropped 1.8 percent compared to the week before.
Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,781,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 3.8 percent slump from the 1,851,000 nt produced in the previous week, and a 4.8 percent increase from the 1,699,000 nt produced in the same week of last year.
The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 72.8 percent in the week ending October 1, compared to 75.7 percent in the previous week and 70.2 percent in the same week of last year.
