US weekly raw steel production continues to fluctuate

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production fell 0.9 percent in the week ending August 24, reversing a 0.9 percent gain a week ago.

Total raw steel production in the United States was 1,861,000 net tons (nt) last week, reflecting a 0.9 percent decrease from the 1,878,000 nt produced in the previous week and 1.9 percent below the 1,897,000 nt produced in the same week a year ago.

The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 77.7 percent in the week ending August 24, compared to 78.4 percent in the previous week and 76.3 percent in the same week of last year.
