US weekly raw steel production continues to drop

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production decreased 1.5 percent in the week ending September 14, following a 0.3 percent drop a week ago.

Total raw steel production in the United States was 1,843,000 net tons (nt) last week, reflecting a 1.5 percent decrease from the 1,872,000 nt produced in the previous week and a 5.3 percent increase from the 1,751,000 nt produced in the same week a year ago.

The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 76.9 percent in the week ending September 14, compared to 78.1 percent in the previous week and 70.4 percent in the same week of last year.
