US weekly raw steel production - April 24, 2010

In the week ending April 24, 2010, US domestic raw steel production was 1,764,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 72.9 percent. Production was 977,000 tons in the week ending April 24, 2009, while the capability utilization then was 40.8 percent. The current week production represents a 80.6 percent increase from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending April 24, 2010 is up 0.6 percent from the previous week ending April 17, 2010 when production was 1,755,000 tons and the rate of capability utilization was 72.6 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through April 24, 2010 was 27,083,000 tons, at a capability utilization rate of 68.8 percent. That is a 64.6 percent increase from the 16,460,000 tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 42.4 percent.

Broken down by districts, the production for the week ending April 24, 2010 in thousands of net tons is as follows: Northeast Coast: 140; Pittsburgh/Youngstown: 114; Lake Erie: 48; Detroit: 126; Indiana/Chicago: 481; Midwest: 233; Southern: 547 and Western: 75.
