Union officials said this week that US Steel has issued an additional 159 layoffs at its steel tube manufacturing and distributing plant in Lone Star, Texas, bringing the total number of layoffs at the plant to 240 since early January.

US Steel officials have not confirmed the layoffs, though the company has stated that it continues to adjust production in line with demand and that temporary layoffs and idling of some lines may result.

US Steel acquired the former Lone Star Technologies and its Lone Star Steel plant in 2007 for about $2.1 billion.
