US Steel spent $750,000 on government lobbying

US Steel Corporation Wednesday confirmed it spent three quarter of a million dollars in the fourth quarter of 2009 to lobby on issues such as health care, trade, and even defense.  This reflects a $450,000 year-on-year decline in lobbyist spending, and reflects a $130,000 decline in spending from Q3-09.

The lobbying was done in response to anticipated effects the aforementioned issues would have on the steel industry.  Although AK Steel announced a $31 million non-cash charge in Q1-10 due to the recently passed heath care bill, it is not yet clear how other steel companies' bottom lines will be affected.
