US steel mill shipments rise in December

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Tuesday that for the month of December 2013, US steel mills shipped 7,632,629 net tons, a 0.4 percent increase from the 7,604,428 net tons shipped in the previous month, November 2013, and a 2.0 percent increase from the 7,483,120 net tons shipped in December 2012. Full-year shipments for 2013 totaled 95,423,417 net tons, a 0.5 percent decrease compared to full-year 2012 shipments of 95,948,663 net tons.

A comparison of December shipments to the previous month of November shows the following changes: hot rolled sheet, up 9 percent; cold rolled sheet, up 1 percent; and hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, down 4 percent.
