US steel imports fall 3.4 percent in October

According to US import data, preliminary census totals for steel imports in October totaled 2,432,717 mt, a 3.4 percent decrease from September census totals. A year-on-year comparison shows an 11.8 percent decline. In terms of value, US imports in October totaled $1.89 billion, compared to $1.87 billion in September and $2.10 billion in October 2015.
 
The top sources for US imported steel in October were Canada, with 425,069 mt, followed by Brazil, with 263,300 mt; Korea, with 246,863 mt; Mexico, with 245,737 mt; Turkey, with 201,617 mt; and Japan, with 168,383 mt.
 
Major products imported to the US in October include HDG, at 284,483 mt; hot rolled sheets, at 199,471 mt; cold rolled sheets, at 189,433 mt; wire rod, at 135,608 mt; and OCTG, at 133,958 mt.
