US steel exports up 12.7 percent in March

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, monthly steel exports in March 2023 increased 12.7 percent from February to total 804,182 mt. A year-on-year comparison shows a 5.1 percent increase. In terms of value, US steel exports in March totaled $1.42 billion, compared to $1.25 billion in February and $1.43 million in March 2022.

Steel exports to Canada in March increased 10.9 percent to 389,501 mt, and increased 2.6 percent from March 2022. Exports to Mexico increased 14.2 percent month-on-month to 362,714 mt, which is up 7.4 percent from the same month a year ago.

Other top destinations for US steel exports in March include: India, with 4,729 mt; China, with 3,409 mt; Dominican Republic, with 2,655 mt; United Kingdom, with 2,437 mt; and Brazil, with 2,353 mt.

Major steel products exported in March include HDG, at 122,291 mt; cut-length plates, at 105,494 mt; hot rolled sheets, at 73,301 mt; cold rolled sheets, at 58,678 mt; and plates in coil, at 40,311 mt.
