In a report released Tuesday, the American Institute for International Steel (AIIS) announced that steel exports from the US totaled 1,230 million tons in November, a 6.9 percent increase from October, according to government data. Year-on-year export totals in November represented a 21 percent increase from November 2010, and cumulative export totals from January through November 2011 (12,253 million tons) increased by 10.6 percent compared to the same period last year.

"The good news is that exports increased to every international market except Africa, including the EU, notwithstanding concerns about the EU economic future.   We are encouraged by these data, which show staying power for steel exports, notwithstanding concerns about the direction of many economies at this time," said David Phelps, president, AIIS.
