US standard rail exports surge 197.3 percent in January

US exports of standard rails totaled 17,196 mt in January, surging 197.3 percent from December 274.4 percent from January 2016 levels. By value, standard rail exports totaled $12.3 million in January, compared to $5.3 million in the previous month and $4.9 million the same month last year.
 
The US shipped the most standard rail to Brazil in January, with 11,691 mt, compared to 706.9 mt in December and zero tons in January 2016. Other destinations included Mexico, with 4,116 mt. There were no other notable (over 1,000 mt) destinations for US standard rail exports in January.
