According to national media reports on Monday, US lawmakers have asked Calgary, Canada-based energy infrastructure company TransCanada Corporation if the steel used in the proposed Keystone XL Pipeline project is from India. TransCanada had originally stated--during a Congressional hearing in December--that the steel to be used in the pipeline project would be produced in North America.
According to a letter send to TransCanada's President Russell Girling from Congressmen Henry Waxman, Bobby Rush, John Dingell and Mike Doyle, it has been revealed through new information that the project's intended steel might be produced in India. The House of Representatives will vote on legislation next week to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline as part of the Transportation Bill. TransCanada has previously stated that 74 percent of the steel used for the pipe would be coming from Evraz Regina Canada and Welspun Little Rock.
