US rebar imports surge up 171.5 percent in June

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 193,326 mt in June 2023, up 171.5 percent from May and up 94.3 percent from June 2022 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $123.0 million in June 2023, compared to $47.6 million in May and $104.2 million in June 2022.

The US imported the most rebar from Algeria in June, with 94,059 mt, compared to 7,159 mt in May and 35,472 mt in June 2022. Other top sources of imported rebar in June include Egypt, with 34,165 mt; Turkey, with 30,370 mt; Mexico, with 23,324 mt; and Canada, with 8,871 mt.
