US rebar imports rise 18.6 percent in November

According to census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of steel reinforcing bars totaled 125,882 mt in November, up 18.6 percent from October and up 11.9 percent from November 2015 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $51.1 million in November 2016, compared to $42.6 million in the previous month and $46.9 million in the same month last year.
 
The US imported the most rebar from Turkey in November, with 100,635 mt, compared to 67,794 mt in October and 96,632 mt in November 2015. Other top sources of imported rebar in November include Japan, with 13,202 mt; Vietnam, with 9,559 mt; and Dominican Republic, with 1,603 mt.
