US rebar imports down 54.9 percent in May

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 71,202 mt in May 2023, down 54.9 percent from April and down 65.2 percent from May 2022 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $47.6 million in May 2023, compared to $107.8 million in April and $174.9 million in May 2022.

The US imported the most rebar from Egypt in May, with 28,293 mt, compared to 17,094 mt in April and zero tonnage in May 2022. Other top sources of imported rebar in May include Mexico, with 17,235 mt; Canada, with 10,739 mt; Algeria, with 7,159 mt; and Italy, with 3,156 mt.
