US rebar imports down 5.2 percent in July

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 84,460 mt in July 2019, down 5.2 percent from June and down 38.3 percent from July 2018 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $44.4 million in July 2019, compared to $44.9 million in the previous month and $80.7 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most rebar from Italy in July, with 18,933 mt, compared to 7,216 mt in June and 72,792 mt in July 2018. Other top sources of imported rebar in July include Spain, with 17,004 mt; Mexico, with 16,752 mt; Algeria, with 12,507 mt; and Brazil, with 5,953 mt.
