The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production increased 2.1 percent last week (ended May 12), following a 1.7 percent decrease the previous week.
Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 2,005,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 2.1 percent increase from the 1,963,000 nt produced in the previous week, and a 12.8 increase from the 1,778,000 nt produced in the same week of last year.
The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 81.1 percent in the week ending May 12, compared to 79.4 percent in the previous week and 72.7 percent in the same week of last year.
