US plates in coil imports down 1.1 percent in September

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coil totaled 86,998 mt in September 2023, down 1.1 percent from August and down 9.1 percent from September 2022 levels. By value, plates in coil imports totaled $80.9 million in September 2023, compared to $85.7 million in August and $97.7 million in September 2022.

The US imported the most plates in coil from Canada in September, with 51,096 mt, compared to 47,381 mt in August and 57,702 in September 2022. Other top sources of imported plates in coil in September include Mexico, with 10,486 mt; Germany, with 6,532 mt; and South Korea, with 5,451 mt.
