US mill shipments up 5.3% in October over September

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Friday that for the month of October 2009, US steel mills shipped 6,097,000 net tons, a 5.3 percent increase from the 5,793,000 nt shipped in the previous month (September 2009), and a 13.4 percent decrease compared to October 2008.

A month-to-month comparison of US steel mill shipments in October vs. September shows the following changes: hot rolled sheet, up 12.5 percent; hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip, up 8.8 percent; and cold rolled sheet, up 1.4 percent.
