US iron ore output up 8.8 percent in October from September

US iron ore production in October last year amounted to 3.58 million mt, increasing by 8.8 percent compared to September and up 5.2 percent year on year, according to figures from the Mineral Industry Survey released by the US Geological Survey (USGS). Meanwhile, US iron ore export shipments in October last year totaled 4.05 million mt, increasing by 2.5 percent compared to the previous month and up 6.8 percent compared to October 2015. 
 
In the first 10 months of last year, US iron ore production totaled 32.9 million mt, falling by 9.2 percent compared to the January-October period of 2015, while US iron ore export shipments amounted to 33.2 million mt, decreasing by three percent year on year.
