US iron ore output down 0.5 percent in July from June

US iron ore production in July this year amounted to 3.72 million mt, decreasing by 0.5 percent compared to June and up 15.5 percent year on year, according to figures from the Mineral Industry Survey released by the US Geological Survey (USGS). Meanwhile, US iron ore export shipments in July this year totaled 4.43 million mt, decreasing by 2.4 percent compared to the previous month and down by 11.8 percent compared to July 2015. 
 
In the first seven months of this year, US iron ore production totaled 22.9 million mt, falling by 13.9 percent compared to the January-July period of 2015, while US iron ore export shipments amounted to 21.1 million mt, decreasing by 3.7 percent year on year.
