US iron and steel scrap exports rise in December

According to the latest figures from the US ITC, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,194,756 mt in December, which is a 36.6 percent increase month-on-month and a 17.4 percent increase year-on-year.

Turkey the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in December, with 463,123 mt, which is up 91.0 percent year-on-year and up 41.1 percent month on month. Other notable destinations in December include: Mexico, with 122,647 mt; India with 117,115 mt; Korea, with 67,261 mt; and Pakistan, with 64,785 mt.

For the full-year 2015, the US exported 12,975,740 mt of iron and steel scrap, which is a 15.4 percent decrease from 2014’s total of 15,330,905 mt.
