US iron and steel scrap exports rise 8.3 percent in December

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,217,555 mt in December, an 8.3 percent increase month-on-month and a 1.6 percent increase year-on-year.
 
Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in December with 298,596 mt, which is up 4.3 percent month-on-month but down 35.5 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in December include: China, with 142,647 mt; Taiwan, with 134,615 mt; Kuwait, with 128,316 mt; and Mexico, with 124,780 mt.
 
In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $374.6 million in December, a 15.2 percent increase compared to November and a 25.7 percent increase compared to December 2015.
