US HRC imports up 49.1 percent in September

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled sheet totaled 233,113 mt in September 2023, up 49.1 percent from August and up 55.7 percent from September 2022 levels. By value, HRC imports totaled $188.4 million in September 2023, compared to $148.3 million in August and $145.5 million in September 2022.

The US imported the most HRC from South Korea in September, with 85,613 mt, compared to 15,807 mt in August and 28,429 mt in September 2022. Other top sources of imported HRC in September include Canada, with 81,029 mt; Japan, with 27,152 mt; Mexico, with 18,673 mt; and Brazil, with 8,673 mt.
