According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled sheet totaled 225,257 mt in June 2023, up 44.9 percent from May and up 0.6 percent from June 2022 levels. By value, HRC imports totaled $218.7 million in June 2023, compared to $152.7 million in May and $285.5 million in June 2022.
The US imported the most HRC from Canada in June, with 100,247 mt, compared to 90,083 mt in May and 115,404 mt in June 2022. Other top sources of imported HRC in June include South Korea, with 89,523 mt; Japan, with 16,066 mt; Mexico, with 5,740 mt; and Netherlands, with 5,326 mt.
