US HRC imports up 18.9 percent in May

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled sheet totaled 155,480 mt in May 2023, up 18.9 percent from April but down 22.9 percent from May 2022 levels. By value, HRC imports totaled $152.7 million in May 2023, compared to $124.2 million in April and $246.0 million in May 2022.

The US imported the most HRC from Canada in May, with 90,083 mt, compared to 96,747 mt in April and 97,347 mt in May 2022. Other top sources of imported HRC in May include Japan, with 15,501 mt; South Korea, with 13,468 mt; Netherlands, with 9,263 mt; and Mexico, with 8,731 mt.
