US HRC imports up 16.9 percent in August

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled sheet totaled 156,365 mt in August 2023, up 16.9 percent from July but down 17.2 percent from August 2022 levels. By value, HRC imports totaled $148.3 million in August 2023, compared to $131.6 million in July and $202.4 million in August 2022.

The US imported the most HRC from Canada in August, with 80,326 mt, compared to 87,199 mt in July and 104,767 mt in August 2022. Other top sources of imported HRC in August include Japan, with 16,528 mt; South Korea, with 15,807 mt; Netherlands, with 14,146 mt; and Mexico, with 11,192 mt.
