US HRC imports down 40.6 percent in July

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled sheet totaled 133,761 mt in July 2023, down 40.6 percent from June and down 34.6 percent from July 2022 levels. By value, HRC imports totaled $131.6 million in July 2023, compared to $218.7 million in June and $243.2 million in July 2022.

The US imported the most HRC from Canada in July, with 87,199 mt, compared to 100,247 mt in June and 90,635 mt in July 2022. Other top sources of imported HRC in July include Mexico, with 9,962 mt; Netherlands, with 9,610 mt; Brazil, with 6,279 mt; and South Korea, with 5,728 mt.
