US HRC imports down 22.6 percent in March

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled sheet totaled 106,004 mt in March 2023, down 22.6 percent from February and down 56.3 percent from March 2022 levels. By value, HRC imports totaled $124.9 million in March 2023, compared to $88.6 million in February and $289.9 million in March 2022.

The US imported the most HRC from Canada in March, with 99,929 mt, compared to 76,588 mt in February and 106,888 mt in March 2022. Other top sources of imported HRC in March include Japan, with 24,087 mt; Mexico, with 10,967 mt; Brazil, with 8,566 mt; and France, with 1,576 mt.
