US hot rolled bar imports up 25.1 percent in March

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled bar totaled 71,689 mt in March 2023, up 25.1 percent from February and up 8.2 percent from March 2022 levels. By value, hot rolled bar imports totaled $90.2 million in March 2023, compared to $74.9 million in February and $84.0 million in March 2022.

The US imported the most hot rolled bar from Canada in March, with 36,128 mt, compared to 28,729 mt in February and 32,911 mt in March 2022. Other top sources of imported hot rolled bar in March include Japan, with 12,455 mt; Mexico, with 6,596 mt; South Korea, with 4,307 mt; and Germany, with 1,270 mt.
