US hot rolled bar imports down 15.9 percent in April

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled bar totaled 60,277 mt in April 2023, down 15.9 percent from March and down 10.6 percent from April 2022 levels. By value, hot rolled bar imports totaled $85.2 million in April 2023, compared to $90.2 million in March and $89.1 million in April 2022.

The US imported the most hot rolled bar from Canada in April, with 26,488 mt, compared to 36,128 mt in March and 35,552 mt in April 2022. Other top sources of imported hot rolled bar in April include Japan, with 21,181 mt; Mexico, with 3,161 mt; South Korea, with 2,614 mt; and France, with 1,452 mt.
