US hot rolled bar imports down 10.7 percent in August

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled bar totaled 63,358 mt in August 2023, down 10.7 percent from July and down 7.3 percent from August 2022 levels. By value, hot rolled bar imports totaled $91.0 million in August 2023, compared to $95.8 million in July and $93.9 million in August 2022.

The US imported the most hot rolled bar from Canada in August, with 30,651 mt, compared to 29,088 mt in July and 32,997 mt in August 2022. Other top sources of imported hot rolled bar in August include Japan, with 9,407 mt; Mexico, with 5,277 mt; South Korea, with 4,416 mt; and China, with 3,490 mt.
