US HDG imports up 1.9 percent in July

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip totaled 165,607 mt in July 2023, up 1.9 percent from June but down 4.1 percent from July 2022 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $215.2 million in July 2023, compared to $209.7 million in June and $267.8 million in July 2022.

The US imported the most HDG from Canada in July, with 69,013 mt, compared to 77,634 mt in June and 61,028 mt in July 2022. Other top sources of imported HDG in July include South Africa, with 15,182 mt; Mexico, with 13,828 mt; UAE, with 11,170 mt; and Brazil, with 9,644 mt.
